Teen Contestant Eligibility (2010-2011)

General

In order to be eligible to compete in the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant, a contestant competing for the title of Miss Arizona's Outstanding Teen must (a) be at least thirteen (13) years of age at the time of her first appearance in the preliminary round of the State competition that she is entering in anticipation of this year’s National Finals, and (b) be no older than seventeen (17) years of age as of July 31, 2011. She must also not be eligible to compete on the Miss level in the Miss America Program at any point during the current Pageant Year.

Residence

A contestant must reside in or be enrolled in and attend classes on a full-time basis at an accredited public, private or home school program in Arizona with passing scores in academic and citizenship grades. A contestant must have been a resident of Arizona for a minimum of six (6) months or must have been enrolled in an Arizona school program for at least one semester.

Citizenship

A contestant must be a citizen of the United States of America.

Personal Characteristics

A contestant is and has always been a female.

A contestant is not now nor has ever been married.

A contestant is not now pregnant nor has ever been pregnant and is not the adoptive parent of any child.

A contestant must be of good moral character and has not been involved at any time in any act of moral turpitude.

Other than minor or petty offenses, a contestant must never have been convicted of any criminal offense and there must be no criminal charges presently pending against her.

A contestant can never have performed any act or engaged in any activity or employment that is or could reasonably be characterized as dishonest, immoral or indecent.

A contestant must be in good health and can, to the best of her knowledge, participate fully in any pageant/program activities.

A contestant does not use or consume any illegal, controlled or dangerous substances or abuse the use of alcohol or other dangerous substances.

All contestants are required to submit a one-page essay in support of their chosen platform / area of community service. This essay will be provided to the judges and may be a source of information during the judging process.
